Sunshine Coast Museums

Museums on the Sunshine Coast offer something a bit different from the usual holiday activities and give you a great insight and understanding in to the history of the area.

QUEENSLAND AIR MUSEUM 

The Queensland Air Museum opened in 1973 and has over 40 complete aircraft on display including the Sabre, Hunter, Dove, Meteor, Tiger Moth, Wirraway. Mig 15 and a DC3.  There is also a large display of aviation memorabile.  The museum also has open cockpit days and engine run days (please see the website for details).

LANDSBOROUGH MUSEUM 

The museum has a comprehensive and diverse collection of objects used in the area in the nineteenth and twentieth century’s giving a great insight in to the history of the area.

GYMPIE GOLD MINING AND HISTORICAL MUSEUM 

The Museum displays memorabilia from the early gold mining era and has displays showcasing military, rural, transport, communications and steam development in Australia.  The Museum boasts a picturesque lake as its backdrop which also has great picnic grounds and BBQ areas, so, bring your own lunch and relax by the lake or alternatively dine in the café which provides delicious meals and soak-up the ambience.

WOODWORKS FORESTRY AND TIMBER MUSEUM 

Situated north of Gympie, approximately an hour’s drive from Noosa, the Woodworks Museum & Interpretive Centre is a museum focused on the timber and forestry industries from their colonial beginnings up to the 1950`s..  Displays include large selection of pioneering handtools used in timber getting and saw milling, a 619 year old Kauri Pine disc section, bullock wagons, blacksmith shop, a replica timber getter`s hut, a working replica of an 1860`s steam driven bush sawmill and a 1925 Republic truck.
